David Leon, Saxophonist

David Leon is a Cuban-American saxophonist, woodwinds player, and composer/improviser living in Brooklyn, New York. An active leader and sideman, he has toured internationally as a core member of the chamber trio Sound Underground, releasing three albums to critical acclaim. His own trio #bicmnrosfulmfrenh was recognized as the Best Small Ensemble by Downbeat Magazine’s Student Music Awards in 2016. As the winner of the 2017 ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer’s Award, David debuted a new quartet at the Newport Jazz Festival in August of that year. In November 2018, he will perform alongside pianist Kris Davis as part of The Jazz Gallery’s Mentoring Series.

Sherrine Mostin, Jazz Vocalist

Sherrine Mostin is a jazz vocalist, composer/arranger, and educator based in Miami, Florida.  As a bandleader of the Sherrine Mostin "Anymore Project," she performs her original compositions and innovative arrangements around the city. 

During her time as a young professional, Sherrine has had the opportunity to work with several notable musicians including Gloria Estefan, Fred Hersch, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Terence Blanchard, Karrin Allyson, the New York Voices, and many others.  In 2015 she won DownBeat Student Music Awards in the categories of:  Graduate Jazz Vocal Soloist, Graduate Large Vocal Ensemble (University of Miami), Graduate Small Ensemble (UM), and as the director of the Undergraduate Small Vocal Ensemble (UM). She is active in music outreach, teaching at both the Community Arts Program and Guitars Over Guns Organization.
